Empowering youth, girls, communities
and organizations to
transform ideas into impact
Idea Management and Innovation System (IMIS) is a strategic platform dedicated to fostering homegrown innovation in Lesotho. Born out of a partnership between the Science, Mathematics, and Entrepreneurship Foundation (SMEF) and the Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO, our mission is to empower the nation's youth to become creators, innovators, and problem-solvers.
We believe that Lesotho's greatest potential lies in its own people. By providing a structured path for innovators, IMIS is building a sustainable ecosystem that drives economic growth and creates a more inclusive future for everyone.
We profile innovators and their projects, with each idea undergoing a rigorous assessment by a professional panel of experts from government, academia, and the private sector. This evaluation covers everything from technical feasibility and intellectual property to market potential and readiness for investment.
IMIS invites problem submissions and solution suggestions from the general public, ensuring the innovations we support are relevant and address real community needs.
Innovators receive tailored mentorship, technical support, and access to the resources they need to develop their ideas into market-ready products and services.
The journey doesn't end with a developed idea. We provide pathways for successful innovations to enter an incubation phase, offering continued support to help them grow into viable businesses and scale their impact across the country.
we channel our efforts and expertise into three critical areas that are vital for Lesotho's sustainable development. We believe that by focusing on these sectors, we can create the most significant and lasting impact.
We specialize in supporting innovations that strengthen Lesotho's agricultural sector. Our expertise includes nurturing ideas related to sustainable farming techniques, food preservation and processing, climate resilience strategies for farmers, and building more efficient local agricultural value chains. Our goal is to empower youth to create solutions that lead to self-sufficiency and a reduction in hunger
We are experts in promoting innovations that enhance transparency, civic engagement, and public service delivery. This includes developing and supporting civic technology solutions, creating transparency tools that hold institutions accountable, and building models for greater community participation in local and national decision-making. We believe that technology can be a powerful tool for strengthening democratic institutions.
Our team is skilled in guiding the development of digital solutions that address local challenges. We help youth create digital solutions for business and social needs, foster the creation of local content that reflects Basotho culture and values, and support the growth of tech-driven businesses that can compete in the modern economy. We see ICT as a key driver of economic diversification and job creation.
Beyond just creating innovative ideas, we focus on equipping youth with the skills to turn their concepts into sustainable ventures. Our expertise includes providing guidance on business model development, market analysis, financial planning, and securing seed funding. We are committed to building a new generation of entrepreneurs who can create jobs and drive economic growth.
